   Résumé
   Grande fresque sur les origines de la création de la ville de New York où natifs américains et immigrants irlandais cohabitent dans une violence quotidienne. Sur fond de guerre de Sécession et d'abolition de l'esclavage, les esprits s'échauffent et les conflits s'enveniment. Alors enfant, Amsterdam Vallon a vu au cours d'un affrontement son père se faire assassiner sous ses yeux par le cruel Bill le boucher. Des années plus tard, il infiltre son gang, bien décidé à venger la mort de son père.
   Commentaire
   Ce projet prend ses sources en 1970 lorsque Scorsese lit le livre de Asbury, mais il lui faudra attendre près d'une trentaine d'années pour pouvoir enfin concrétiser son rêve, mettre en image cette épopée sur cette ville qui lui est si chère.
